Missions and Outreach
The Mission and Outreach Committee of Carteret Street United Methodist Church is dedicated to helping those in need. Through the many blessings we are afforded we are able to help numerous families and individuals in their specific time of need. It is amazing the difference a bar of soap, a warm coat, or a safe place to sleep can make in a person’s life. We are constantly reminded of the transforming power of service.
Carteret Street United Methodist Church and the Mission and Outreach Committee are committed to helping you find the right opportunities for service. We hope you will learn more about the agencies we support and feel compelled to get involved.
There is a volunteer opportunity waiting for you...
Salkehatchie Summer Service Project
The South Carolina Annual Conference has over thirty camps across the state for youth and adults age 14+ to fellowship and minister together with those less fortunate. Each camp is a week long overnight experience housed in a church or school facility. Campers eat, sleep and work together for the week. Everything from roofing to building outhouses goes on to help the people of each community. Carteret Street United Methodist Church has sent many individuals to camps over the past years. Additionally, our closest camp, Penn Center, is supported annually through providing meals and assistance as needed. If you are interested in becoming a part of this ministry, contact Susan or Lara, 524-3841, or www.salkehatchi.org.
United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM):
Join with Bob and Joan Suda as they annually lead teams of volunteers through the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission, UMVIM, to places such as Costa Rica and Panama. Work teams have built a church from the ground up, added on to an existing school building as well as aided in local efforts to have a week of Vacation Bible School. In 2011 an UMVIM team will journey to Cienaquita, Panama. There will be two teams. The dates for the first team are January 17-31, 2011, and the dates for the second team are January 31-February 14, 2011. The project is to build a small dental clinic-annex to serve the extremely poor Ngobe Indian tribe. If you are interested in being a part of this mission opportunity please call the church office, 524-3841 , or Bob and Joan Suda, 838-2872.
